Promises promises.....

Ah yes, promises.......like tears in rain, they just disappear. A.S.A.P. Supplies after several emails faithfully promised to deliver our new pump by the end of the week. As Friday dawned  I emailed then phoned to find out that they had not actually posted my parts as they were waiting for the delivery of an `O` ring ( I had ordered two ). So this small, inexpensive and in actual fact non vital part had caused a five day delay. The delay in informing me annoyed me more than the actual delay. I asked them to deliver the pump and associated spare parts as soon as possible and forward the spare `O` ring to our home address. the new deadline is Tuesday, if they make it they will hold the record for delivering to us from the UK. ( Normally its a week)
However the delay did allow us to swim a lot and think about other little jobs on the boat. One of the downsides of living in warmer climes is the fairly ubiquitous mosquito, here in Spain there is a very nasty type called "El Tigre", I believe it imported itself from Asia. A bite from this fella lasts weeks, I know I have had a few!
A trip to our local LIDL produced some anti mosquito curtains which were designed for patio doors however they would provide us with enough material to construct screens for most of the openings on the boat.  A particularly thorny problem is the companionway but after discovering that the two curtains we had bought were designed to be held together by magnets we had a light bulb moment.......

Lynne set to work sewing in a pocket for a cut down sail batten and I removed all the magnets from one curtain.

We cut and fitted as we went and soon the whole thing came together very satisfactorily. The small magnets held the mosquito netting in place and a couple of stretchers and some velcro completed the job. A very good afternoons work and one that hopefully will prove invaluable in the future. We would need to think about the other openings ( nothing has an easy solution) but for now I needed to adopt my alter ego of Mr Teezy weezy as Lynne needed to dye her hair..........

Pretty neat isn't it? Just a fore-hatch three opening ports and several ventilators to go and we will be living in a mosquito bunker, completely safe.
After tea we went to our newest favourite bar in Portugalete, It was a lovely balmy evening. Lots of people about as it was weekend.

we sat and drank wine at one euro a glass, watched the world go by and later watched England snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by allowing Russia to equalise in the third minute of injury time.

The photo was taken when England was 1-0 up!

Mostly the locals were uninterested in the game and were just enjoying the summer evening.
So we did too,,,,,,,,,,,,

  1. Good post. Posts on these type of topics are quite rare. For prevention of mosquito and other insects fibre mesh mosquito screen is enough. It can used with velcro and many other patterns. For preventing birds and other pests it is always advisable to go for ss mesh.
